Multi-tasking

Next weekend, we will be tuned in to the LDS General Conference Broadcast, and so will many of our friends. It’s a perfect opportunity for a bit of multi-tasking, and we at Harmony are wondering what our friends and readers will be working on over the weekend? Please let us know by posting a comment below or post a picture of your project on our Facebook page.

If you haven’t already picked something out, here are a few projects ideas we have found inspiring:

Fall Pumpkins

The one we have in the store was knitted by Sarah from a pattern she acquired at a local Utah shop-hop, but have you seen the beautiful patterns available on Ravelry?  A pumpkin would be a perfect quick little project to knit on the weekend.

We love the Fairytale Pumpkin by Jessica P

This pattern uses a super bulky yarn, such as Cascade Lana Grande $8.00 per 100g skein or Rowan Big Wool $15.95 per 100g skein.

The Jack Be Little Pumpkin by Elizabeth Murphy or Linda Dawkins Knitted Pumpkin are super cute too, and by the end of the weekend, you could have finished dozens. Suitable yarns we have in stock would be Cascade 220 worsted weight, $9/110g skein or Universal’s Deluxe Worsted $6.60/100g skein.

Slippers

The French Press Felted Slippers pattern by Melynda Bernadi caught our eye while we were browsing Ravelry. This pattern will definately be on our “to knit” list. We’ll let you know how they turn out. The worsted weight cascade 220 would felt well or we like the idea of using Cascade’s Alpaca Lana D’oro.

Hats

A hat would be a perfect weekend project too, and there are so many to choose from. Amy  Swenson’s Cabled Button Toque is a great little pattern. This one is knitted in the Cascade Lana Grande. We love this color.

We are very much looking forward to hearing about your plans for next weekend, and seeing pictures of what you have created.

We want our customers to know how much we have enjoyed getting to know you, and how much we value your feedback. We have been listening, and we are working on expanding the range of yarns we carry. We are on a waiting list for madelinetosh, and have lots of other new yarns on their way. We’ll let you know when they arrive!

Hand-smocked Nightgown: A Timeless Classic

This week we just unpacked a box of beautiful treasures that came to us from Madagascar – hand-smocked and embroidered nightdresses for girls in sizes 2-8. They are so beautiful they  take your breath away. Each night dress is unique and lovingly hand sewn. They were handmade by my friend Haingo, mother of three daughters, who was a shop clerk near where we lived in Antananarivo, Madagascar. During our three years there she became a special friend.  Wanting to create a job for another dear friend, I had Claudia take care of the ordering details, shipping and handling.  Claudia just had a daughter born to her and has a year old son.  By supporting these women we can help them create a better life for their families.

I don’t think it’s too hard–aren’t they beautiful?

One week later…

Our Grand Opening at Harmony was wonderful fun for all of us who had hoped for the best!  Things came together– and even better, people came together to make it a happy and festive occasion.  We met with old and loyal friends and made many new ones, our greatest goals in having this shop.  We got some good feedback and will pay close attention to the wishes of our customers.  Thanks to all who came and made it an unforgettable time for us!
The ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, Sept. 18 was another auspicious occasion–our Provo City Chamber of Commerce came out in force to welcome us and we had family and friends there, too.  Who would have thought this would ever be us?  Wielding giant scissors and feeling part of Provo’s business community–such an honor.

Changes to the Intro to Crochet Class

The time for our Intro to Crochet class is changing to evenings in October. The dates/times will now be Thurs October 4th, 11th and 18th from 7.30 – 9.00pm. Hopefully this will be at a more convenient time for people to be able to attend and make this beautiful chevron striped scarf.

Along with the change in schedule, the price for the classes has been revised, and will now be $45 for the three classes. Students need to bring 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn, a size k/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook, scissors, and a blunt tapestry needle. Harmony is offering a 10% discount on materials purchased for our classes.

Students enrolled in the Intro to Crochet class will receive a muslin project bag, the pattern, and wool yarn to make the crocheted flower. The class starts in just two weeks, so please call the shop to book your place.
