More about our new workshops

Since the shop opened, we’ve had great fun meeting many new friends. Tracy Willburn is one of our treasured new friends who is always knitting something beautiful and exciting–just look at the projects she has posted on her Ravelry page! At our first knit night, Tracy mentioned she took her family on vacation to Portland so she could attend Sockapalooza and develop her sock skills. We are thrilled that Tracy will be teaching “Getting started with socks” on Thurs. Dec 6 from 7-8:30.

Alison Stokes thought it might be fun to have a yarn store of her own some day, and became a friend of Harmony when she volunteered to help with our website and blog. She also taught our Kids Yarn Crafts: Introduction to knitting class, and busy kids had lots of fun! They dyed their yarn in beautiful colors with Kool-Aid, made pom-poms, worked on spool knitting, made headbands and flowers, and began knitting on two needles. Alison was interested to try knitting Entrelac because she had remembered a beautiful cardigan her Grandmother had knitted that she always wore with her “best” outfits.  Alison knitted a scarf using Noro Silk Garden which caught the eye of many in our knitting group and she agreed to share her experience in getting started with Entrelac. She will be teaching our Entrelac Workshop next week on Tues. Nov 20 from 7-8.30.

Our knitting community

Our knit nights have been such fun. Its been wonderful to get to know so many wonderful people and to see all the amazing projects you are working on. Our last knit night was our biggest so far! So many great people to knit with that we filled two rooms! When Harmony started, we couldn’t have imagined what a wonderful community of knitters and crocheters we would be able to be a part of.

It was a very productive knit night. Here are some projects that were completed at knit night. Well done, ladies.

Our next knit night will be this Thursday November 15th. Look forward to visiting with you.

Hat Contest

We are very excited to announce Harmony’s very first contest: A hat contest, to be judged by you, the public. We want to see what beautiful winter hats our customers can create.

To enter and win $150 of yarn of your choice, choose a hat pattern, choose some yarn, and start knitting, or crocheting. All entries need to be submitted by Thanksgiving. We will display the hats in the store, and ask our customers to vote on their favorite.

Voting will begin November 23rd, and the winner will be announced at our knit night on Thursday December 13. We’ll be sure to post pictures here on our blog too. We can’t wait to see them all!

The rules:

  1. All hats need to be entered by close of trading Wednesday November 21st
  2. Your entry must be crafted from yarn you have purchased at Harmony
  3. All entrants need to be willing to leave their hat to be displayed in the store until Dec 13th. Hats can be picked up from the store from Dec 14th onwards.
