Intro to Swimwear – Girls’ Tank Suit

Come see just how fun and easy sewing Swimwear can be! If you have ever wanted to learn to sew swimwear but were intimidated, or didn’t think you could without a serger, this class is for you! We will be making one girl’s Tank suit (toddler to tween size) from start to finish, and learning all about sewing on a regular machine with super stretch fabric and elastics on the way.
Materials: Kwik Sew tank suit pattern (K3785 or similar), Fabric amount as per pattern, elastic, polyester thread to match fabric, ball point needle for machine, rotary cutter, cutting mat

Brilliant Tie Dye

Learn a lot about Tie-Dye! A variety of different folding and dying methods will be shown as we will go through the steps of tie-dye. A variety of dye colors will be available so you can create your very own favorite new shirt!
Materials: Bring one quality, pre-washed, 100% cotton, silk, rayon or wool item to dye. (Please do not bring old worn out clothes, especially for children. This will be a favorite shirt, so you want it to last!) Rubber/latex gloves if you want to keep your hands clean. One bath towel instead of a shirt is o.k.

Sew Knits Without a Serger! (The Ebony T-Shirt/Knit Dress Pattern)

Learn how to sew with knits using a regular sewing machine while making the Ebony T-Shirt or Knit Dress pattern by Closet Case Files in this 4-hour class. We will learn how to use a double needle for hemming with knits, inserting a neck band, and sewing up knits using a stretch stitch. No serger needed! This class will walk through the entire process from cutting out your fabric to a finished shirt.
Materials: Ebony Pattern, pre-washed fabric as needed according to the pattern, matching thread, basic sewing tools such as seam ripper, scissors for both paper and fabric, pins.

Prep Instructions: Please have pattern cut out and/or taped together

Beautiful Batik

This is a fun and safe process that allows the creator to make specific patterns and images using a wax resist method. The wax is soy based and can be washed out of the fabric with warm water. Personalize your very own fabric for a quilt! Ages 14+. The teacher will provide one prepared cotton bandana to learn the batik technique on.
Materials: Bring a favorite image, pattern, animal, color that you would like to use in the design on your bandana. Rubber/latex gloves are nice if you want to keep your hands clean.

Beginning Crochet

Learn crochet basics (chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half-double crochet and double crochet) while making a lovely flower pin. Students receive a muslin drawstring bag and folder with illustrated instructions. Green yarn provided for leaves.  Class size limited to 4!
Materials: One skein worsted weight yarn in desired flower color and 1 size H/8 5.0mm hook.

Granny Square Class

Learn to crochet a timeless classic.  We will learn circular crochet motifs, changing colors, weaving in ends as you go, and joining techniques.  Basic crochet skills required.  
Materials: Bring several different colors of DK or worsted weight yarn, size F/5 3.75 mm hook (DK) or size H/8 5.0 mm hook (worsted), scissors, and a tapestry needle.

Allison Baker will guide kids aged 10 and older through fiber skills such as weaving, crochet, embroidery, hand sewing, and macramé to make fun and useful crafts. This kids camp is not to be missed! For kids aged 10 or older. Materials provided.

Session 1 attendees must already know how to crochet (Beginning Crochet Class is sufficient)

Kids Fiber Camp Summer 2017 Session 2

Sunburst Granny Class

Learn to crochet a fun variation on the traditional granny square! Class will cover different methods of beginning circular crochet motifs, changing colors, weaving in ends as you go, principles of flatness, and joining techniques. Basic crochet skills required. Pattern will be provided.
Materials: Bring several different colors of worsted weight yarn, a size G/6 4.0 mm crochet hook, scissors and a blunt tapestry needle.

Weaving 101

Learn to weave on a rigid heddle loom.  Students will warp their loom in class and begin to weave a scarf.  They will work on the scarf at home then complete it in class.  Students will begin the second project at home, with the third class for troubleshooting.  Looms will be available to purchase or rent at 20% off; rental fee can be applied to purchase price.  
Materials: two 50-gram balls of worsted weight yarn for a skinny (5”) scarf, or two 100-gram balls for a 7-8” wide scarf.

Embroidered Needle Book

Needle Books are fun to make, practical to use and thoughtful gifts. The soft and strong wool felt is a great way to practice embroidery stitches and can double as a sampler of stitch combinations.The pages keep the needles tidy and the magnet makes the book a very helpful addition to an embroiderer’s work area. No more misplaced needles!  This pattern is a springboard for ideas. Change the shape, the background shape, the type of animal. Materials are provided, scissors are nice to have.

Olivia’s Baskets

These multi-purpose reversible baskets are easy to make and will make a great addition to any room in your home. These baskets can be made in three sizes that are perfect for all of your storage needs. Technique: Basket construction, bias binding. Class level: Beginner

Materials: Pattern, Soft and Stable, Fabric ( Quilted and CUT out), Wonder Clips, Thread, Stiletto is helpful, Tube Turner is helpful, 1’’ polypro strapping
Prep Instructions: Have fabric quilted and cut out for any size basket you would like to make. We will only be making one basket in class, as the others are made in exact same manner.

Camden Street Satchel

The perfect bag to grab and go.  Includes an inner zippered pocket to keep items secure and an easily accessible back slip pocket to keep your items handy. Technique: Bag making, zipper installation, strap making, seam finishing techniques. Class level: Beginning – Intermediate

Materials: Pattern, Hardware set, Zippers, Quilted Fabric (CUT out), Wonder Clips, Clover Chalk Marker (I prefer white), Stiletto, Tube Turner, Interfacing
Prep Instructions: Fabric must be quilted and cut out prior to coming to class.

We will make a woven sampler while learning several different techniques, including hemstitching and leno, for future weaving projects.
