Fall 2018 Class List

weaving

Weaving 101 Learn to weave on a rigid heddle loom. Students will warp their loom in class and begin to weave a scarf. They will work on the scarf at home then complete it in class. Students will begin a second project at home, with the third class for troubleshooting. Looms will be available to purchase or rent at 20% off; rental fee can be applied to purchase price. Supplies list available at sign-up. Class size limited to 4!

Sew Your First Shirt ClassYou will make Sonya Phillip’s classic and simple pattern, Shirt no 1. This top is a great introduction to sewing garments and will cover cutting your pattern and using bias tape to finish your edge.

Requires pattern and listed fabric for your size. Please have your fabric pre-washed and pressed prior to class.

Cooking with Jane – Fall Harvest – It’s getting cooler, the leaves are just beginning to turn, and the nights are growing longer. You know what that means—it’s time to change your flavor palette from the raw fruits and vegetables of summer to vinegary pickles, hearty beans, and earthy soups. Come cook with us in September!

Beginning CrochetLearn crochet basics (chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half-double crochet and double crochet) while making a lovely flower pin. Students receive a muslin drawstring bag and folder with illustrated instructions. Green yarn provided for leaves. Class size limited to 4! Materials: One skein worsted weight yarn for flower and a size H/8 5.0mm hook.

Mistake Fixing WorkshopMistakes are a part of knitting, but you can learn how to fix them! Fix mistakes in stockinette stitch, textured stitches, lace patterns, etc. Whether the stitches are still on your needles or even if you’ve bound off. Take the mystique out of mistakes to finish flawless projects.

Skill Building: Baby Booties + Socks Have you always wanted to learn to make booties or socks? Have you wanted to shape your knitting but felt it was hard to figure out? This class features two, easy to finish, small patterns to help you find that success quickly. A pair of Mary Janes will help you understand the concept of increases, shaping and ways to keep track during a complex pattern. A pair of baby socks will help you learn how to knit in the round, how to use double pointed needles, and the structure of a sock. We will go over each one, step by step. My goal is to help you learn to “read” your knitting, to understand where you are not only in the pattern, but seeing. Patterns come included with the class. Supplies list available at sign-up.

Beginning Spinning Drop Spindle Class Learn to spin on a Bare Bones spindle. We will learn about the history of spindles, Park and Draft, and spinning on spindles using really great fiber. Afterwards we can discuss all the different marvelous things you can do with a spindle. You can spin for a project, or just for fun! The best part, a spindle is so very portable. Handcrafted spindle and roving included.

Cooking With Jane – Thanksgiving Pies If you want a special Thanksgiving pie to make this year, look no further. We will bake slab pies for a crowd, hand pies for fun, borrow a buttery tart from our Canadian neighbors, and use a cookie crust for the grand old pumpkin favorite.
