Fairisle Tam Class This class is to help demystify the complexity of Fair Isle knitting and explore the joy of making a tam. Discover the beauty of the new line of Jamieson’s yarn Harmony is carrying, imported all the way from Scotland. Get help selecting your colors, learn the importance of hue and value in stranded work. learn how to read charts, successfully knit with two colors in a row, and create a lovely cap for this winter. Must be able to knit in the round.

Supplies list available at sign-up.

Scandiwork Fairisle Valentine Mitts – A great first fair isle knitting project. Knit a pair of mitts using Kristin Drysdale’s newest Larsdatter mitts pattern. Skills explored in class are two color knitting, knitting in the round, knitting a gusset and picking up thumb stitches,  color dominance, sewing the heel, crochet edge, blocking and felting, and a Latvian braid.

Student provides: one skein of each color and dpns to obtain gauge . Mittens will be needle size 2mm-3mm or needles needed to obtain gauge.

Edward’s Menagerie Monsters – Come enjoy an evening of monster crochet! Mix and match designs and features to create the monster of your dreams. From a well traveled three-eyed alien, to a muddy lake monster, to an adorable cave dwelling monster there is something for everyone. Using Kerry Lord’s “Edward’s Imaginarium” book, you will be able to choose the pattern you like and learn the techniques required to bring your creature to life!

Student provides: yarn of choice with a crochet hook to match, and the Edward’s Imaginarium book. Teacher provides stuffing and yarn needles.

Weaving 101 – Learn to weave on a rigid heddle loom. Students will warp their loom in class and begin to weave a scarf. They will work on the scarf at home then complete it in class. Students will begin a second project at home, with the third class for troubleshooting. Class size limited to 4!

Student provides: two 50-gram balls of worsted yarn for a skinny (5”) scarf, or two 100-gram balls for a (7-8”) wide scarf, cricket loom (can be rented for $20 or purchased at 20% off, rental fee can be applied to purchase price)

Scandiwork Solvieg Fairisle Sweater – Come knit Kristin Drysdale of Scandiwork’s brand new pattern — a stunning solvieg sweater in Rauma Finullgarn! Spread over two months and four in-depth classes, this is the most sophiscated knitting class we’ve ever offered. Master skills such as stranded colorwork knit and purl, attention to gauge and fit, setting up and cutting a steek, colorwork and increasing in pattern for the sleeves, embroidery, color dominance, cutting a steek, 3-needle bind off, setting sleeves in, picking up stitches, and concealing the steek cut-edge. The gauge for Solveig 24 stitches over 4 inches or 26 stitches over 4 inches depending on the size chosen. Homework before the first class includes swatches with one color and two colors and knitting the hem of the sweater.

Student provides: 300 (350, 350, 400) grams  (6,7,7,8) skeins of the main color and 150 (200,200 250) of the contrasting color, two colors of Jamieson Spindrift for embroidery, 7 clasps, needles will be circular needles approx 2.5-3 or 3 -3,5  mm (or needles needed to obtain gauge). Teacher provides the pattern and additional embroidery yarn.

Beginning Continental Knitting for Adults – Learn basic knitting and purling stitches in the Continental style. This is a very fluid and enjoyable method of knitting. We will also be learning a basic cast-on and cast-off, as well as fundamental pattern-reading skills. We will use these skills to make a useful dishcloth and a cute cowl.

Student provides: 1- size 8 24” circular needle, ~200 yards of Aran weight yarn, Basic knitting supplies: scissors, measuring tape, blunt-tipped metal darning needle, stitch markers, pen or pencil, sticky notes. Dishcloth yarn will be provided by instructor.

Cooking with Jane – Creating “Hygge in the Kitchen  Hygge” (pronounced hoo-gah), the Danish concept of a cozy sense of being and environment, can be felt in a number of ways — from sitting in a space with lots of candles to snuggling up with a warm blanket — but my favorite way to experience it is with food. It’s hard to deny the pleasure of comfort food and just how cozy it can make you feel. This Harmony class will explore ways to get that “hygge” feeling through food.

Top-Down Sock Class—Learn the ins and outs of knitting a basic well-fitting pair of socks from the top down on double-pointed needles—turn a sturdy heel, make toe decreases, and learn how to make Kitchener stitch your friend. Your feet will be so excited and so comfy!  For the advanced beginner (can cast on/off, comfortably knit and purl, can do a basic increase/decrease)

Student Provides: set of 5 size #1 double-pointed needles, 5″ long; 1 or 2 skeins of fingering-weight yarn (sock yarn), totaling about 400 yards; scissors; tapestry needle; measuring tape; pen or pencil.

Treelight Sweater  We will be knitting the beautiful Lopi pullover Treelight by Jennifer Steinglass as featured in Making #6: Black and White. We will discuss color choices and dominant colors. We will work on shaping and using short rows to make a sweater you will be happy to wear. We will discuss steeking in case you want the option of making a cardigan.

Student provides: Making #6: Black and White , 9-13 skeins of Lettlopi in main color (add 2 skeins if you are planning on making a cardigan), 1 skein of Lettlopi in 1st contrasting color, 1 skein of Lettlopi in 2nd contrasting color, 1 skein of Lettlopi in 3rd contrasting color, 1- 16” circular needle in size 5 or size to obtain gauge, 1- 32” circular needle in size 5 or size to obtain gauge, 1- 32” circular needle in size 6 or size to obtain gauge, 1 set each of size 5 and size 6 dpns or size to obtain gauge, Basic knitting supplies: scissors, measuring tape, blunt-tipped metal darning needle, stitch markers, pen or pencil, sticky notes.

Seam Finishing with a Market Tote In this class, you will learn two professional seam techniques: the French Seam and a complete Flat-Felled seam while making a cute reusable tote. Both seams are self-enclosed and very durable, and will elevate your sewing skills! Students must have all fabric cut out before class time, there will not be time or space in class to cut out.

Student provides one yard of fabric of choice, thread, pattern (free online).

Next Steps for Beginning Knitters: Beyond the Rectangle – This is a class for the beginning knitter who wants to increase their basic skill set. We will be exploring cables with a simple hat, learn about lace with a quick cowl, and practice increases and decreases with some bulky fingerless mitts. We will also learn how to read and follow a pattern and a chart. Class members should be comfortable knitting and purling as well as casting on and casting off. This is not an introductory knitting class and it will be assumed that you are familiar with those skills.

Student provides: 1 set of 5 6”dp needles, size 11 (preferably wood or bamboo), 1 cable needle, 1- size 11 16” circular needle, 1 skein Aran-weight yarn, 2 skeins (about 180 yds. each) bulky-weight yarn (not super-bulky), Basic knitting supplies: scissors, measuring tape, blunt-tipped metal darning needle, stitch markers, pen or pencil, sticky notes.

Sew Knits Without A Serger Sweatshirt   If you’ve never sewn on knit fabric but always wanted to, this class is for you! Designed for students with intermediate sewing experience who have never sewn knits before —this class will teach you the basics of beginning to learn knitwear on a stable knit fabric and get you hooked on all the benefits of knitwear (no seam finishing! Minimal pressing! No hemming!). Sew a Boxy Sweatshirt Tee by Allison Hallstrom (the teacher!) – Simple and flattering design perfect for those beginning to sew knitwear.  Features a raglan sleeve and easy boxy fit and a variety of design options.

Student provides 2 yards of 60” wide (2.5 yards of 45-50” wide) Sweatshirt knit, French Terry, or fleece with minimal stretch, all purpose thread, basic sewing supplies (scissors, pins, seam ripper, etc). Sewing machines available for use. Teacher provides the pattern.
