Cooking with Jane:  Persian Feast!  Persian New Year, “Nowruz,” celebrates the spring equinox.  This year it falls on March 19 and will be a time of feasting and celebration.  My Persian friend, Heideh Nasizadeh, is joining me for a class that will explore Persian specialties like crispy rice, kebobs, walnut and herb frittata, and a pomegranate stew.

Intro to Machine Sewing for Kids  

Llama class: Stitch up a super cute “No Drama Llama,” and she will become your best friend.  We will learn some hand sewing and sewing machine basics.  Decorate your llama blanket, and she’s ready for any adventure.  For ages 7-12, supplies included!

Hat in a Day   Bring a friend or make new friends as we knit a cozy colorwork hat using two- or three-color stranding technique.  You will learn to knit with two colors at once without twisting the yarns or dropping one color to knit with the other as you knit either Kristin’s Dala Horse Hat (three-color stranding or two-color with duplicate stitch) or Stein Hat (two color technique).   Get a 30% off Ravelry code provided at the time of registration for pattern.  Bring a lunch and Kristin will provide a Scandi treat!

Beginning Brioche Workshop   Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of Brioche knitting, a technique that makes a reversible knit fabric!  We will learn how to do the basic brioche stitches in one and two colors and get comfortable working flat and in the round.  Supplies for practice scarf: About 400 yards each of 2 colors of worsted weight yarn, a 24” size 6 circular needle with pointy tips.  Supplies for circular practice sample: about 100 yards each of 2 colors of worsted yarn, a 16” size 6 circular needle with pointy tips.   Bring scissors, stitch markers, a metal blunt-tipped tapestry needle, sticky notes, pencil, & measuring tape.

Half Square Triangle Quilting    Learn three different techniques for quilting half square triangles.  We’ll cover measuring, cutting, placement, sewing, and design.  Suitable for all skill levels and so much fun!  Bring at least a quarter yard each of two different fabrics—one light and one dark—or more color options, if desired.  Bring coordinating thread and rotary tools (scissors okay) as well as a marking tool (pen, pencil, chalk).  Your own machine is best to use, so bring it along—a sewing machine will be provided otherwise.

Brioche Knitting 2.0 – Build upon skills learned in Beginning Brioche Knitting to make beautiful intricate designs in brioche by using various increases and decreases. We will also learn the two-color Italian cast on and two-color Italian bind off.  Students must have completed a beginning brioche class or should be comfortable knitting brioche in one and two colors.  Bring at least 2 colors of worsted weight yarn (totaling 200 yards) and size 5 or 6 24” circular needles as well as basic knitting notions:  scissors, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needle, pen or pencil—sticky notes are helpful!  There is advanced preparation required; teacher will contact you for details.

Next Steps Knitting Class: Move Beyond the Square!  Quickly expand your basic stitch repertoire in this fast-paced class with fabulous projects.  We will explore cables with a hat, lace with a cowl, and shaping with increases and decreases in a pair of fingerless mitts. We will also learn pattern and chart reading. Supplies as follows:

Cable Hat—120 yards of Aran weight yarn, a set of 5 double-pointed needles, size 11
Fingerless Mitts—190 yards Aran/chunky weight yarn, a set of size #6 and size #8 double-pointed needles, scrap yarn
Lace Cowl—230 yards of bulky weight yarn, a size 11 24″ circular needle
All classes: scissors, stitch markers, measuring tape, and a blunt-tipped needle

Beginning Crochet   Learn crochet basics (chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half-double crochet and double crochet) while making a lovely flower pin.  Students receive a muslin drawstring bag and folder with illustrated instructions.  Materials: One skein worsted weight yarn for flower and a size H/8 5.0mm hook.  Green leaf yarn is provided.  Class size limited to 4!

Punch Needle Embroidery   Punch needle embroidery is a fun and easy folk craft that has recently gained popularity.  In this workshop you will not only learn the basics of how to use your punch needle tool but also how to create designs of your own.  Student provides a size 10 oxford punch needle, monk cloth, wooden frame, small scissors, and worsted or aran weight yarn.

Granny Squares   Learn to crochet a timeless classic!   In this class you will learn circular crochet motifs, changing colors, weaving in ends as you go, and basic joining techniques. Pattern provided.  Basic crochet skills required.  Student provides several colors of DK or worsted weight yarn, size F/5 3.75mm hook (DK) or size H/8 5.00 mm hook (worsted), scissors, and tapestry needle.
